In conjunction with the Association of Professional Shooting Instructors there is now a series of coaching courses offered by Total Shooting throughout the year. These are aimed at the professional instructor looking to improve his knowledge and skills, or the shooting enthusiast wishing to train as a part time or full time professional instructor.
There are two Basic Instructor Courses run each year in the UK, one in the Spring, the other in the Autumn. There is a maximum of 18 people per course. The courses include:
- Teaching safety
- The basic techniques of shotgun shooting
- The shooting methods
- Understanding the Master Eye
- The basic techniques of shotgun coaching
- Special drill routines for dry-practice
- Lesson presentation
- The fundamentals of gun fitting, with and without a try gun
- Shotgun technical knowledge from a master gun maker
- Special section on coaching in the game field
- The APSI Professional Safety Examination
- Practical coaching experience
The basic course is run by six tutors. Two present the main body of the course while specialist subject tuition is provided by the remaining four. Cost of the course is £785 per person, to include four nights in a hotel and all meals. The next course in 2007 is April 23 - 26 inclusive, venue to be confirmed.
The APSI is now able to offer these courses in other countries.
